# Sidequest Use License

Version 2.1 — October 11, 2026

### 1. Who and what this covers

These terms are between David Lederer (the “Provider”) and a person using an official
Sidequest distribution (the “User”). “Software” means the Sidequest
software supplied with these terms, including its first-party code,
game assets and documentation. Third-party components are addressed separately
in section 5.

### 2. Permission to use

The Provider grants the User a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission
to install, run and evaluate the Software on devices the User owns or is
authorized to use, under these terms. No invitation or email acceptance is
required. The User may make
copies reasonably needed for installation and backup, and inspect the supplied
source code for evaluation and troubleshooting.

Playing Sidequest while doing paid or commercial coding work is permitted.
There is no purchase requirement, subscription charge or automatic conversion
to a paid plan under these terms.

### 3. Distribution and ownership

Except where applicable law or a third-party license allows otherwise, the
User may not redistribute the Software or its source code, sublicense it,
sell copies, or offer the Software as a hosted service without the Provider's
written permission. The User must preserve copyright and license notices.

The Provider retains the rights the Provider holds in the Software. These terms
do not transfer ownership or grant rights in any third party's intellectual
property. Rights not expressly granted here are reserved by their respective
holders.

### 4. Feedback and sharing results

Feedback is welcome but optional. Send questions or bug reports to
[Dav.lederer@gmail.com](mailto:Dav.lederer@gmail.com). Do not include private
conversation transcripts, credentials, employer code or other material you are
not authorized to disclose.

The User may discuss their experience and share puzzle results, screenshots
of the game and official challenge links. This permission does not allow sharing
the installation package, first-party source code, access credentials or private
host-session links. A challenge link does not grant access to a private website.
These terms do not impose a separate nondisclosure agreement or prohibit honest
reviews.

### 5. Third-party software and host services

Third-party components remain governed by their own licenses, including those
in `THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md`. These terms do not narrow any rights granted by those
licenses. If there is a conflict regarding a third-party component, that
component's license governs it.

Claude, Codex, the hosting provider and any other external service have their
own terms, permissions and availability. This license does not grant access to
those services or authorize bypassing their security controls.

### 6. Software availability and data

Features may change or stop working, and saved
progress may be lost. There is no promise of ongoing updates, compatibility,
support response times or continued availability. The User should keep backups of
important work and follow the host application's security guidance.

The accompanying `PRIVACY.md` describes the Software's data handling. This license
does not authorize collection of conversation text or source code, and does not
create an obligation to send diagnostics or feedback.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Software is provided “as is”
and “as available,” without express or implied warranties, including warranties
of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. To
the extent permitted by applicable law, the Provider is not liable for indirect,
incidental, special or consequential damages arising from use of the Software.
Nothing here excludes liability or rights that applicable law does not allow
the parties to exclude.

### 7. Duration

Permission begins when the User accepts these terms by installing or using
this release. It continues unless the User ends participation or materially
violates these terms.
The User may stop at any time by uninstalling the Software.

When permission ends, the User must stop using and remove the first-party
Software and installation copies, except for copies required to be retained
by law. Third-party license rights remain unaffected. This does not authorize
the Provider to remotely delete the User's files or unrelated data. Ownership,
third-party rights and applicable warranty/liability provisions continue to
apply after participation ends.

The Provider may distribute official copies through plugin marketplaces and
authorize those hosts to deliver installation and update copies. This does not
grant other users permission to redistribute or relicense the Software.

### 8. Changes

These terms apply to the copy supplied with them. A later release may use
different terms, which must be presented separately.
These terms do not automatically relicense previously distributed copies or
enroll the User in future releases.
