# Dreams of Dali (The Dalí Museum · 2016)

## Insight
Salvador Dalí's paintings depict surreal dreamscapes that are impossible to inhabit. VR makes the impossible inhabitable. The technology and the artist were made for each other — 80 years apart.

## Mechanic
The Dalí Museum created a VR experience placing visitors inside Dalí's painting "Archaeological Reminiscence of Millet's Angelus." Visitors could walk through the landscape, encounter Dalí himself, and explore the impossible geometry of the surrealist world.

## Why it worked
The technology (VR) is not a novelty addition to the art experience — it is the only medium that makes the specific experience (inhabiting a Dalí painting) possible. The match between medium and content is exact. P18 (Tech as Canvas) works here because removing the technology removes the idea entirely.

## Steal
When you have a historical archive or artistic world that cannot be accessed physically, ask which technology would make "inhabiting it" possible rather than "representing it." The difference between representation and inhabitation is the difference between an exhibition and an experience.
