# Puppy Monkey Baby (Mountain Dew · 2016)

## Insight
Mountain Dew Kickstart combines three things in one drink — juice, Dew, caffeine — a product truth that doesn't translate into a conventional benefit ad. The absurdist answer: a hybrid creature combining three beloved things in one body.

## Mechanic
A Super Bowl spot featuring a CGI creature with the head of a pug, the body of a monkey, and the legs of a baby — dancing around and offering cans of Mountain Dew Kickstart to men on a couch. No explanation offered. The tagline: "DEW. JUICE. CAFFEINE." Three things in one.

## Why it worked
Absurdism (P11) at its most committed: the premise was bizarre enough to generate enormous social media commentary ("what did I just watch?") — which was the actual media strategy. The absurd creature was a product metaphor that generated shareability without trying to be relatable. It became a cultural reference point.

## Steal
When a product's differentiator is "combination of three things," a grotesque three-way hybrid creature is a legitimate creative strategy — especially if your audience rewards the weird over the polished.
