# Research Brief

Before collecting data, define:

- decision the research must inform
- current belief
- strongest competing explanation
- evidence already available
- missing evidence that could reverse the decision
- source types to inspect
- freshness requirement
- stopping rule for research
- how conflicting evidence will be handled

Research is complete when the decision can be made at an appropriate confidence level, not when every possible source has been read.
