# Replay (Gatorade · 2009)

## Insight
Middle-aged men carry one sporting moment their whole lives — the high school game they drew, the championship that got away. Gatorade is the fuel of performance, but its audience is largely people whose peak performance is behind them. What if Gatorade could give them one more chance?

## Mechanic
Gatorade identified a real high school football rivalry — a 1993 game that ended in a tie — found the original players (now in their mid-30s, some out of shape), trained them for months, and replayed the game. The documentary captured the whole journey: physical decline, family sacrifice, sports medicine, and the emotional weight of unfinished business. The game was played again. For real.

## Why it worked
P13 (truth-telling) operated at its most powerful: the truth that athletic prime ends but competitive desire doesn't. P16 (long-form) was structurally required — the months of training were the emotional story, not just context for the game. The campaign was a non-advertising idea (a real event) that functioned as Gatorade's most honest product demonstration: the drink is for people who still want to compete, regardless of age. The human stakes made it genuinely moving rather than promotional.

## Steal
When your brand's core promise is performance, find a performance that matters to real people — not manufactured athletes — and make it happen. The authenticity of real stakes produces emotion that no scripted film can match.
