Description

From the marketplace listing

JobSprout runs a real ATS rubric on your resume, rebuilds it in a designed template, and keeps the result in your account to reuse. Score it: paste your resume for a 0 to 100 ATS score with a category breakdown and where you rank against real scored resumes. It runs a fixed rubric, so the same resume always gets the same score. Build it: browse 43 designs and build your resume into one that looks like a designer made it, exported as a clean PDF. Keep it: everything you build lives in your JobSprout account, where it can become a cover letter, a version tailored to a specific job, or a personal site. Work in your language: resumes and cover letters in 20+ locales.

# Building a resume

JobSprout renders resumes through a real typesetting engine (Typst) to a pixel-accurate PDF, and the finished resume lands in an editor the user keeps. The template is chosen visually.

## Workflow

1. Gather the content. Accept pasted text, an uploaded file, or details collected in the conversation. If collecting by conversation, ask section by section (contact, summary, experience, education, skills) and confirm dates and employers with the user.
2. Decide the template path:
   - If the user just wants a resume and has expressed no interest in choosing a design, skip the gallery and call `build_resume` with the content and no `template_id` (a clean default is used, and they can switch the design afterwards).
   - If the user names a design ("use Academic"), skip the gallery and pass that name as `template_id`.
   - If the user wants to choose a design, call `list_resume_templates` with their preferences (one or two columns, photo, clean vs designed). It renders a browsable gallery.
3. **If you showed the gallery, end your turn and wait for the user to choose.** Do NOT call `build_resume` in the same turn, and do NOT pick a template for them. The user chooses by clicking "Use this" on a card (which sends the choice back to you) or by naming a template. Only recommend a template if the user explicitly asks you to, and only one that appears in the gallery.
4. **The moment they choose, call `build_resume` with their choice and the content.** Do not call `list_resume_templates` again to confirm or re-show the choice. Showing the gallery a second time is a failure, not a safe default.
5. The card shows the finished resume with Open in editor and Download PDF. Do not repeat it or write out its links; say in a sentence that it is ready and offer one next step.

## Boundaries

- Never fabricate employment history, titles, or achievements. Build only from what the user provides.
- Never pad or shift dates to fill gaps.
- Recommend only templates returned by `list_resume_templates` in the current conversation.
- Never search for jobs or claim to submit applications.

## Do not trigger on

- Requests to score or critique an existing resume (use **resume-review**).
- Requests to find jobs.

# Reviewing a resume

Use JobSprout's rubric-based scorer, not a freehand opinion: `score_resume` returns a deterministic 0-100 score with a category breakdown and a percentile against real scored resumes, rendered as a report card. That is the point of this skill.

## Workflow

1. Get the resume as text or a file. If the user only described their background, ask them to paste the resume or attach the file first. Do not review a LinkedIn URL or a job posting as if it were a resume.
2. Call `score_resume` with the resume text (or the file). The tool renders the score card with the full breakdown and top fixes. Do not rebuild that breakdown as text, a table or your own card.
3. In one or two sentences, name the weakest area and the single most useful fix from the tool's result. Go deeper only if the user asks.
4. Offer a next step:
   - To produce an improved, properly typeset version, use the **build-a-resume** skill (`build_resume`).
   - If the user has a linked JobSprout account and a specific job in mind, offer to tailor a saved resume with `tailor_cv_to_job` (see **tailor-and-apply**).

## Boundaries

- Never invent or estimate a score yourself. The score comes only from `score_resume`; identical text returns the identical score.
- Never review a LinkedIn profile, a portfolio, or a job description as a resume.
- Never search for jobs, list openings, or claim to apply on the user's behalf. These tools do not do that.
- Do not fabricate the user's experience when suggesting fixes; suggest how to strengthen what is real.

## Do not trigger on

- Requests to find or apply to jobs.
- General career advice with no resume shared.

# Tailoring to a job

These tools work on the user's **saved** JobSprout resumes and require a linked account. If the user is not linked, the tools return a prompt to connect their account; relay that and continue once they have linked.

## Workflow

1. Call `list_my_cvs` to find the resume's `cv_id`. It shows the user nothing. If the user named the resume, use that one; if they have several and did not say which, ask. If they have none, suggest building one first (see **build-a-resume**).
2. Get the job description. Ask the user to paste the full posting.
3. Call `tailor_cv_to_job` once with the `cv_id` and the job description. By default it tailors the resume **in place**, exactly like tailoring inside the JobSprout editor. Only pass `mode: "new_copy"` if the user explicitly wants to keep the original untouched.
4. If the user asked for a cover letter, call `generate_cover_letter` once with the same `cv_id` and job description, only after the tailoring has returned. Otherwise offer one.
5. Each result is shown in its own card with open and download buttons. Do not repeat the cards, the change list, the letter text or the links; confirm in a sentence or two.

## Boundaries

- These are paid operations that use the account's JobSprout credits. If the account has no credits, the tool says so with a link to the plan options; relay that plainly and do not push an upgrade.
- Tailoring reframes the user's own experience; it never fabricates. In-place tailoring rewrites the summary, skills, and experience bullets of the chosen resume (the user can undo in the editor); use `mode: "new_copy"` when they want the original preserved.
- Never invent experience to match the job. Tailoring reframes what the user already has.
- Never search for jobs or claim to submit applications.

## Do not trigger on

- Requests to find or apply to jobs.
- Anonymous users with no saved resumes and no intent to link (offer **build-a-resume** instead).

Release notes

Resubmission after the 2026-09-16 review. The failing case was templates then build: after the user picked a design from the gallery, the assistant showed the gallery again instead of building, so no resume was made. The tool descriptions and the build-a-resume skill now tell the model to call build_resume as soon as a design is picked and never to re-show the gallery. We ran all 5 positive and 3 negative cases on ChatGPT web and mobile with the demo account before submitting. Every case assumes a linked account, since ChatGPT asks the user to sign in with JobSprout when the plugin is added. The demo account is on the Pro plan with credits, so every case can be repeated. Upgrade prompts were removed from all tool output: the plugin sells nothing, and when credits run out it links an informational pricing page only.
