From the developer

Declared capabilities

  • Search academic literature by keyword
  • Look up papers by DOI
  • Find related papers through the citation network

Declared limitations

  • Unrelated request: no Litmaps tools should be called.
  • Unsupported destructive action: no tool is called; ChatGPT explains that the Litmaps app can't delete maps and suggests doing it in the Litmaps web app.
  • Ambiguous target: with several Litmaps in the account, ChatGPT lists them (list_workspaces, list_litmaps) and asks which one to use before adding anything.

Description

From the marketplace listing

Litmaps helps you discover and organise academic literature using the citation network. Ask ChatGPT to find papers on a topic, explore everything related to a paper you already know, and see the results as an interactive Litmaps citation map: papers laid out by publication date and citation count, connected by their citations. With Litmaps in ChatGPT you can: - Search Litmaps' database of academic articles by keyword or DOI. - Find related work for one or more papers using Litmaps' citation-connected ranking: papers that share citations and references with yours, including work that never cites them directly. - Get a paper's full reference list or every paper that cites it. - Find papers by authors your seed papers share. - Check whether a paper has been retracted. - Create maps in your Litmaps account, annotate them with labels and themed groups, and view them right in the conversation. - Save papers to tags (collections) and your Read Later list. Sign in with your Litmaps account to use your library. Maps are shown as they are in your account, and stay private. Editing, panning and zooming a map happen in the Litmaps app; the map in ChatGPT is a read-only view with a link to open it there. Limitations: this app can't delete maps, tags or papers, or change account settings. The in-chat map uses Litmaps' standard layout (publication date by citations).

Release notes

Litmaps shown in conversations from before the tools were renamed draw again. get_map_graph returns as a view-only alias of get_litmap_graph, which the Litmap view in those conversations calls, and the current view also reads show_map's earlier results. The model never sees get_map_graph, and no other tool changes.
