Private equity firms have bought thousands of dental offices, vet clinics and eye care practices, and most keep their old local names. PE or Not? tells you who's behind a specific business. Ask about one practice and you get its label (PE-backed; PE-backed, now lender-controlled; corporate-owned; health system; clinician-owned group practice; or no known PE ties), the owner group, its private equity backers and since when, how the match was made, and dated sources. Ask about an area and you get the practices there filtered by ownership, for example dentists in a city with no known PE ties. Ask about a group or brand and you get its owners, backers, brands and locations. Coverage: every dental and eye care practice in the US national provider registry checked against the groups that own them, plus national veterinary, dermatology and GI chains: about 65,000 locations of 500+ groups. # PE or Not?
PE or Not? reports who owns or backs local health practices, with a dated source for every label.
1. For one practice, get its name plus city and state or ZIP (a street address or phone makes the match surer) and
call `lookup_business`. For a group or brand ("who owns Heartland Dental?"), call `get_group`. For an area
("dentists in Plano with no PE ties"), call `find_businesses`.
2. Answer with the result's `say` text and cite the sources (headline and link).
3. Say "PE-backed" or "affiliated with a PE-backed group" and name the firm, not "owned by" a PE firm. Say "no known
PE ties", not "independent". If the status is `possible_matches` or `multiple_matches`, ask for the street address
before giving a label.
