Description

From the marketplace listing

Use it whenever the user asks to see, find, get or use photos, pictures or images of real people, places or things, for any purpose: blog, website, product page, slides, flyer, ad, post, wallpaper. Say what you need in your own words, in any language: a simple subject like “a white mug on a wooden table”, or a full scene with mood and light like “two colleagues laughing in a bright open-plan office”. It also covers content that should carry photos, such as “write a blog post with pictures” or “make a deck with images”, and questions about where to find free photos. Use it to illustrate an article, add a header or hero image to a landing page, put photos in slides, a report or a school project, or find a picture for a social post, a thumbnail, a cover, a poster or a banner, in landscape, portrait or square. Search by image: share a picture or paste an image link, for example a paid stock photo you like, and get free photos that look like it. You can also ask for more photos like one you already found, or adjust it in words, such as “like this one, but at night”. The reference image is used only to run the search and is not stored. Results appear in a visual grid. Tap the heart on the photos you want and drag them into your preferred order, then refer to your selection in the conversation, such as “put my selection in the document” or “write the article around the photos I picked”. Any photo can be added to the conversation as an image file, up to 1280 pixels wide, to place in a document, a slide or a post. Every photo comes with its photographer, source, license and a ready-to-paste credit line. Licenses differ between sources, so the one that applies is shown with each photo. Useful for bloggers, marketers, students, teachers, designers, developers and small businesses. Pexafy only finds existing photographs. It does not generate, edit or upscale images, and does not find illustrations, drawings, icons, logos, diagrams, screenshots or photos of named people.

name: find-stock-photos
description: >-
Use this skill when the user asks for real photographs or states a need that photographs fill: to find, show or provide photos or pictures ("show me images of"); for an article, blog post, website, landing page, product, slide, social post, ad, newsletter, banner, thumbnail, cover, poster, background, wallpaper or mood board; for content they ask to illustrate with photographs ("write an article with pictures"); for free, stock, royalty-free, commercially usable or documentary photographs; for a real photograph when they ask for one; or for free alternatives to a picture they link to or upload, or to a Pexafy photo. A request with no reason given ("a photo of a white mug", "a train in Japan") is a complete request, and these requests count in any language. A request for a visual is not always a request for a photograph: not for illustrations, logos, icons, diagrams or screenshots, not for generating, editing or upscaling an image, not for a named person, and not to add photographs the user did not ask for.

# Find stock photos with Pexafy

The user's explicit instructions come first: if they say they do not want photographs, or ask for an illustration, a drawing or an image to be created, do not use this skill.

Pexafy searches its own index of millions of free-to-use photographs, collected from stock libraries such as Unsplash, Pexels and Pixabay; every result names its licence. Matching is semantic: one sentence can describe the whole scene.

## Which tool

- A scene described in words → `search_photos`, with that scene as one English sentence in `english_search_sentence`. Translate when the user wrote in another language; English retrieves best.
- A picture the user already has → `search_photos_by_image` with the image as the reference: its public link in `image_url`, or, when the user uploaded it and the host passes uploads to tools, the upload itself in `image_file`. Add `english_search_sentence` when the user wants something changed or kept from it ("like this but at night"); the picture stays the main signal. A picture with no link that the host does not pass to tools — a local file, or on some hosts a picture pasted into the conversation — is searched in words instead: describe the scene it shows in one English sentence and search with `search_photos`.
- More photographs like a Pexafy one already found or liked → `search_photos_by_image` with its `photo_id` as the reference. Add `english_search_sentence` when you have the words that photograph was found under; staying on the subject is the safer default. Omit it only when they plainly want photographs that look like it.
- The photographs the user liked in the Pexafy grid → `get_grid_selected_photos`, rather than reading the selection off earlier results.
- A photograph to insert in a document, attach or download, or to edit with the host's own tools → `get_photo_file_by_photo_id` with its `photo_id`: a URL is a link, the file is the picture.

## The shape of the photo

Set `explicit_orientation_filter` only when the user asked for a shape in their own words, or named a format whose shape is part of its definition — a vertical Short, a banner, a square post, a phone wallpaper. Never infer it from the subject, the composition, or a purpose that fixes no shape. It is a hard filter: a shape nobody asked for drops better matches than it adds.

## Showing what comes back

Where the host renders the Pexafy grid, the person already sees the photographs and their credits in it, so there is no need to list them again. Where the grid is not rendered, show each photograph with its credit line, `attribution.plain`, and its link, `urls.regular` — that link is the photograph itself, and `source_image_url` is its page at the source. Each result carries a `rank`, its place in that answer: use it to turn “the second one” into that photograph's `photo_id`, and send the id. The grid paints no number on a result tile, so the only numbers th

Release notes

Package 1.1.1, for Pexafy's MCP server 1.0.2 (in production since 14 October 2026). It replaces package 1.1.0, which was not published. In this package: - The name shown is Pexafy Stock Photos, with a description and long description that say when it helps: photos, pictures or images of real people, places or things, for any purpose. - Searching no longer needs sign-in: the tools work without an account on a daily allowance, counted under a keyed hash of ChatGPT's anonymized user identifier. connect_account shows ChatGPT's own account-connection prompt to people who want to use their Pexafy account. Every tool declares both noauth and oauth2 (scope read). - A skill, find-stock-photos: which Pexafy tool fits a request and how to present what comes back. - Starter prompts, and capabilities that match server 1.0.2. On the server (tools reach users through continuous review): - search_photos takes one English sentence (english_search_sentence, formerly q) and an optional shape filter (explicit_orientation_filter, formerly orientation, now a list of landscape, portrait, square). The colour, source, licence, photographer, date and paging filters left the tool. - search_photos_by_image also takes the photo_id of a Pexafy photo ("more like this one"), besides an image URL, an uploaded file (image_file) or base64 bytes. - New get_photo_file_by_photo_id: one photograph as an image file, at most 1280 pixels wide, with its credit line. - New get_grid_selected_photos: the photographs the person liked in the grid, in their order, held for about an hour. - New connect_account (see above). - New results grid: shape filter, swipe deck, likes, and ≈ for similar photographs. Its CSP: connect https://mcp.pexafy.com, resources https://thumb.pexafy.com, no frames; widget domain https://pexafy.com. - Responses no longer carry request identifiers, timings or plan names. - get_similar_photos is no longer listed: search_photos_by_image with a photo_id does the same job. Calls that use the 0.4.12 tool and parameter names keep working. - Where the results grid is shown, search_photos and search_photos_by_image open on a paragraph that presents the grid as the complete visual answer, and the model no longer receives the photographs' addresses there, so it does not write them again below the grid. Answers carry a declared presentation field. - Nullable output fields are declared as anyOf branches. All tools remain read-only.
