Description
From the marketplace listing
Convert a bank statement PDF to Excel or CSV and check that it balances to the cent: opening balance + money in - money out = closing balance. Attach a bank or credit card statement (a text PDF from your bank's website, or its CSV or Excel export) and Tallyproof extracts each transaction: date, description, signed amount (money out negative), running balance when printed, and a suggested category.
The key step is reconciliation. It finds the opening and closing balance on the statement and checks opening + money in - money out = closing to the cent. You see PASS, or the difference in dollars and cents and the rows to look at: where the running balance breaks, a likely missing deposit or withdrawal, a duplicated row, or a reversed sign. Deposit and withdrawal totals are compared with the statement's own totals.
It handles real statement layouts: one signed amount column, separate withdrawal and deposit columns, separate deposit and withdrawal sections, CR/DR suffixes, negatives in parentheses, thousands separators, multi-page statements with repeated headers, descriptions that wrap onto a second line, and dates without a year (placed inside the statement period, including December to January). Bank CSV and Excel exports are cleaned into the same format, newest-first or not.
Downloads: an Excel workbook (transactions, reconciliation, totals by month and by category), a clean CSV, and a QuickBooks-ready CSV (Date, Description, Amount). You can also paste or list transactions to reconcile them or total money in and out by month and category.
Good for bookkeepers, freelancers and small businesses doing monthly books or taxes, and anyone preparing statements for a loan application.
Limitations: text PDFs only (scanned or photographed statements need OCR first); up to 60 pages and 20,000 transactions per file. Account numbers are masked to the last 4 digits. Files are read once and downloads expire after about an hour. Categories are keyword suggestions, not accounting or tax advice.

# Tallyproof Statement Converter
Use `convert_bank_statement` when the user attaches a bank or credit card statement and wants it in Excel, CSV or QuickBooks: "convert bank statement to excel", "bank statement pdf to csv", "does my statement balance". Pass the attached file as `file`. Accepted: text PDFs, CSV and .xlsx exports.
Use `summarize_transactions` when the user types or pastes transactions instead of attaching a file, or wants money in and out by month or category. Put each row in `transactions` with a signed `amount` (money out negative; for credit cards, charges negative and payments positive) and an ISO or MM/DD/YYYY `date`. Pass `opening_balance` and `closing_balance` only when the user gives them.
1. Leave `account_type` on auto for files. Set `credit_card` for pasted card transactions or card CSV exports.
2. Set `statement_year` only if the dates have no year and the user says which year. Set `flip_signs` only for a card export that shows purchases as positive numbers.
3. Reply with the reconciliation first: PASS, or the difference in dollars and cents and the rows the tool flags (quote its reasons). Then give money in, money out and net, the main suggested categories, each warning, and the three download links. Say the links expire in about an hour and that categories are suggestions.
4. Never repeat full account numbers; the tool shows only the last 4 digits.
If the tool says the PDF is a scan or the file is an image, do not call convert_bank_statement again with the same file. Read the transaction rows from the pages yourself and call summarize_transactions with them (it reconciles to the cent, so a misread row shows up). Ask the user for the text PDF or CSV export only when you cannot read the rows. Do not use this skill for opening bank accounts, routing numbers, tax advice, or editing non-financial PDFs.
Referenced files: 1 — file references are metadata, not package contents.
Release notes
The listing names the main job (bank statement PDF to Excel or CSV) and the skill tells the assistant what to do with a scanned or photographed statement: read the rows and reconcile them with summarize_transactions. Tools and their inputs and outputs are unchanged.
