Cost & access

Nothing is sold inside ChatGPT. The hosted connector needs a Zoteus subscription bought on zoteus.com (checkout by Polar), and the sign-in page links there for people who do not have one. Reviewers get a dedicated free review key (see the test credentials).

Declared limitations

  • Bulk permanent deletion. Permanent deletion is disabled on the hosted service, so Zoteus refuses; at most it offers to move specific items to the Zotero trash after confirmation.
  • Access outside the connected account. Zoteus only reaches the signed-in Zotero account and the groups it belongs to, so it should say it cannot open someone else's library.
  • Purchases. Zoteus cannot buy articles or process payments; it should decline, and may offer to look for an open-access copy instead.

Zoteus connects your Zotero library to ChatGPT. Search your references and the full text of your PDFs, pull passages with the page number they came from so every claim can be checked against the source, render PDF pages and figures as images, build bibliographies in any CSL style, add papers by DOI or arXiv id, and work with Zotero group libraries. It can also write back to your library: items, tags, collections, and PDF annotations anchored to the text you quoted. Deletions go to the Zotero trash so they can be undone, and permanent deletion stays off unless you turn it on. You connect your own Zotero account. Zoteus is open source.
