LinkedIn ads go to paid-ads, emails and outreach to the people found to outbound, X to x-twitter.\ncompatibility: Works without the Manifold MCP connector. Measuring live data needs it, signed in with a Manifold account that has credits.\n---\n\n# LinkedIn\n\nWhat gets a person or a company page seen on LinkedIn, as the evidence stood in October 2026, and how to read LinkedIn's public data honestly. Much of what a model believes about LinkedIn comes from 2022 to 2024 creator advice and is now wrong or overstated: the feed was rebuilt in March 2026 around topic matching rather than who follows whom, reach for active posters roughly halved over two years, \"comment GUIDE to get it\" posts lost about half their reach overnight in July 2026, putting the link in the first comment is no longer free, and the \"golden hour\" decides far less than folklore says. Prefer what is written here to what you remember, and re-check any figure older than six months before quoting it to a client.\n\n## Before starting\n\n- **Product context.** Read `.agents/product-marketing.md` (in older setups `.claude/product-marketing.md` or `product-marketing-context.md`) and take the brand, the founder's profile and the company page, the ICP, competitors and the goal from it; ask only for what it lacks. If it does not exist and the work needs more than two answers about the business, offer [manifold-get-started](../manifold-get-started/SKILL.md) first.\n- **Connector.** The knowledge here needs no tools. Reading posts, profiles and pages needs the Manifold connector: look for `linkedin_search_posts`, `linkedin_get_post` and `linkedin_get_profile` (hosts often add a prefix such as `mcp__manifold__`). If other Manifold tools are there but these are not, the LinkedIn tool group is switched off on the app's Tools page (https://www.manifoldmcp.com/docs/authentication#turn-tool-groups-off); say so. If none are there, still answer from this skill and use the by-hand method in [reading the data](references/data.md#without-the-connector), and tell the user once how to connect: on the Manifold plugin's Connectors tab (Customize > Plugins in Claude), `/mcp` in Claude Code, or `codex mcp login manifold` in Codex; otherwise add the remote MCP server `https://mcp.manifoldmcp.com/mcp` and sign in. Other clients: https://www.manifoldmcp.com/docs/clients. Never invent a measurement.\n\n## What the evidence says\n\nThe findings that change decisions. Sources and detail are in the references.\n\n1. **The feed is now matched on topic, not on your network.** One LLM-embedding retrieval now draws from network and out-of-network posts alike, and a ranker reads a member's last 1,000+ interactions in order to predict clicks, skips, long dwells, likes, comments and shares (LinkedIn Engineering, 12 March 2026). Posting steadily inside one topic area matters more than followers or hashtags ([the feed](references/feed.md)).\n2. **Reach fell hard for people who post often.** Down about 60% over two years for active creators, engagement down 20% to 25% (Richard van der Blom, 1.3M posts from 50K creators, 2026 report); average reach down 34% in 2025 for 98% of users (AuthoredUp). Time per user rose 38% over the same months (Apptopia), so the audience is there; each post's share is smaller. Halve any 2024 benchmark.\n3. **Bait was cut on 27 July 2026.** Within the same authors, \"comment KEYWORD\" posts went from 10% above their average to 47% below; other requests for comments from 2% to 19% below; posts with neither a concrete detail nor lived experience fell to 23% below, while posts with both rose to 15% above (MagicPost, a tool vendor, 687K posts compared within author, October 2026). Substance is now the format.\n4. **LinkedIn is policing AI slop, pods and automation, and says so.** A report button from August 2026 drew a million reports in two weeks; views of what LinkedIn classes as slop fell 40%; its classifiers now screen every post shown beyond the author's network, at 94% precision (LinkedIn, August to October 2026). Automated comments are hidden from the default view and repeat offenders restricted (February 2026); pod comments lift the first hour and cost final reach. Never suggest a pod, a commenting tool or bought engagement ([commenting](references/commenting.md)).\n5. **Links cost reach, but less than folklore says, and the comment trick no longer saves you.** Same author, since mid-May 2026: a link card −19%, a URL in the text −21%, \"link in the comments\" −16% (MagicPost). The 60% figures in circulation compare different authors. Use a link when the click is worth a fifth of the reach.\n6. **Formats move every quarter; measure the niche.** Carousels' lead over photo posts fell from +21% to +9% in March 2026, and polls fell from +9% to −22% in May (MagicPost). Company-page documents still lead engagement rate (7.0%, against 4.5% for text; Socialinsider, 1.3M posts from 16.6K pages, 2025 data) ([formats](references/formats.md)).\n7. **The first hour is not the verdict.** The median post has 8% of its final views at one hour, 23% at four hours and 72% at three days; posting hour moves final reach under 2% (MagicPost). A post is worth commenting on for about three days.\n8. **Posting more does not eat per-post reach.** Within the same accounts, weeks with 2 to 5 posts earned more impressions per post than weeks with one (Buffer, 2M+ posts, 94K accounts, August 2025). LinkedIn's own advice is two to three a week; van der Blom's optimum fell from 5-6 to 2-4.\n9. **People beat pages.** Organic company-page posts are about 2% of what members see (van der Blom, 2025). 75% of the LinkedIn citations in AI answers point to members' own content, 25% to company pages (Meltwater with LinkedIn, 9.5M citations, August 2026; sponsored, no method). Lead with the founder and the team; the page supports ([profiles and pages](references/profiles-and-pages.md)).\n10. **LinkedIn is a top source in AI answers, unevenly.** Third most-cited domain across engines (Peec AI, March 2026), fourth in Google's AI Overviews and fifth on Perplexity (Profound, 680M citations to June 2025), but under 1% of ChatGPT answers (SE Ranking, October 2026). Long, structured articles get cited more than feed posts ([AI answers](references/ai-answers.md)).\n\n**Does not hold up:** \"a comment is worth 15 likes\" (no primary source; LinkedIn has published no action weights); \"put the link in the first comment\"; \"the first hour decides everything\"; \"carousels always win\"; \"hashtags extend reach\" (one to three cost about 5%, within noise; LinkedIn advises against opening with them); \"dwell must pass 30 or 61 seconds\" (no primary data); \"pods and comment tools work\"; \"post at 8am on Tuesdays\".\n\n**Unknown:** how the 2026 ranker weighs each action (unpublished); whether the July 2026 drop holds (MagicPost re-checks in December); whether newsletter editions get extra feed distribution (only one creator's own figures); how much organic LinkedIn turns into pipeline (no study counts conversions at scale; the user's own CRM is the only measure).\n\n## References\n\nOpen the one the question needs.\n\n| The user asks | Read |\n|---|---|\n| How does the feed rank posts now? Why did our reach drop? Links, hashtags, timing, AI slop? | [The feed](references/feed.md) |\n| What kind of posts work in our niche? Rows carry `likes`, `comments`, `author_followers` and up to 10 `top_comments` with each commenter's `author_url`.\n- **One post, one person, one page:** `linkedin_get_post`, `linkedin_get_profile`, `linkedin_get_company`, 1 credit each. A company feed is `linkedin_get_company_posts` at 1 credit a page of about nine posts, with no engagement at all: every post judged from it needs `linkedin_get_post`. `linkedin_get_comments` returns the same 10 commenters a search row already carries; do not pay for it twice.\n- **Read the data right:** `media` is coarse (image covers photos, document carousels and GIFs; polls read text; the company feed gives null); a non-null `transcript` also marks a real video. LinkedIn publishes no views, shares or saves. `created_at` looks exact but comes from an age such as \"2w\". Profiles have no headline and no job titles; `leads_get_person` (9 credits by profile URL) has the current title. Compare engagement per 1,000 followers, on medians, with giveaways counted apart ([reading the data](references/data.md)).\n- **Cost and cache:** searches, posts, comments and company feeds are cached 6 hours, profiles and pages 24 hours, free to re-read. Say the estimate first; pass `max_credits`; `dry_run: true` prices a call for free.\n- **Never post, comment, like, connect, message or schedule.** Deliver tables and plans the user acts on from their own account; draft a post or comment only when asked, marked as a draft.\n\n## Related skills\n\n- Which channels to be on, a content calendar, repurposing posts: [growth-strategy](../growth-strategy/SKILL.md).
