Sport for girls is not recreation — it is a developmental intervention. The problem: this truth was never stated plainly, in a world where girls were still routinely excluded from sports programs and facilities. ## Mechanic A TV film: a series of young girls speaking directly to camera, each completing the sentence "If you let me play..." — "I will be 60% less likely to get breast cancer." "I will suffer less depression." "I will be more likely to leave a man who beats me." The girls are matter-of-fact, direct, not pleading. The statistics appear on screen. Nike's swoosh at the end. No athletes, no spectacle, no drama — just children stating facts. ## Why it worked P13 (truth telling): the data was real, the delivery was direct, and the category convention was to never say any of it. Nike said it in 60 seconds with no softening. P17 (design as idea): the structural simplicity — direct address, one completion per girl, facts only — was its own argument. The restraint communicated more confidence than any production value could have. The film became a touchstone for conversations about girls and sport that are still ongoing. ## Steal When your brand's social truth can be stated in plain numbers, state it in plain numbers. Statistics are not cold when delivered by the people who live them. Let the facts do the work — trust the audience to feel what the data means. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p13]] - Sibling: [[apple-1984-1984.md|1984]] - Sibling: [[calm-the-last-photo-2022.md|The Last Photo]] - Emotion match: [[apple-1984-1984.md|1984]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
