# What's Happening? (Twitter · 2015)

## Insight
Twitter's core mechanic — asking "what's happening?" — was its greatest asset, but the brand had failed to communicate why answering that question in public matters. Real-time cultural conversation was happening; Twitter needed to own it.

## Mechanic
Integrated campaign positioning Twitter as the live conversation layer of the world — news, sports, politics, entertainment — centering on the platform's "What's Happening?" prompt as the axis of participation.

## Why it worked
User-as-co-author (P09): every tweet is a contribution to a collective live narrative. The campaign made Twitter's participatory nature explicit rather than functional. Positioning around the verb (happening, live, now) differentiated from static social feeds.

## Steal
When your product is a verb, make the verb the campaign. "What's happening?" is better than any brand promise. The question implicates the user — it cannot be answered without participation.
