# Michael CeraVe (CeraVe · 2024)

## Insight
CeraVe is a dermatologist-developed skincare brand. Its name sounds like Michael Cera. What if Michael Cera was behind CeraVe all along, and had simply been waiting for the right moment to claim credit?

## Mechanic
In the weeks before the Super Bowl, content appeared online suggesting Michael Cera had developed CeraVe. He was photographed at dermatology conferences, endorsed the products in awkward videos, and claimed ownership. Then the Super Bowl ad "revealed" the truth. The campaign was a coordinated PR fiction.

## Why it worked
The campaign exploited the exact gap between the brand name and the actor's name — a coincidence so obvious no one had acted on it. The cultural hijack (P05) hijacks the actor's persona; the conflict (P02) is the fake controversy between CeraVe's actual origin and Cera's claim. The joke is structurally perfect: the reveal satisfies because the setup built genuine uncertainty.

## Steal
Name-based coincidences are usually ignored because they feel too simple. They're not. If you have a coincidence, commit to it entirely before the reveal. The audience should genuinely not know whether it's real.
