# Man-Mom (Combos · 2008)

## Insight
Combos positioned itself as "what your mom would feed you if your mom were a man" — a deliberately absurd framing of masculine snack culture. The insight: men's food choices are quietly policed by gender norms, and a snack brand that lampoons that policing earns affection.

## Mechanic
A campaign built around the "Man-Mom" character — an absurdist mashup that embodied the brand's self-aware macho positioning. The creative committed to the bit: Combos as the snack endorsed by an impossible figure.

## Why it worked
Absurdist masculinity humor in food advertising is well-worn territory, but the "Man-Mom" premise was specific enough to stand out. The self-aware quality (the campaign knows it's being ridiculous about masculinity) creates the ironic_sincerity that makes P11 work at its best.

## Steal
Find the absurd cultural contradiction at the heart of your category's positioning and make it the character. Don't resolve the contradiction — inhabit it.
