Women compare themselves to these images without knowing the images are impossible. The insight: show them the process. ## Mechanic A 75-second time-lapse film showing the complete production of a billboard image: a plain woman sits down, professional makeup is applied, hair is styled, lighting is set, photos are taken, and then a digital artist stretches the neck, enlarges the eyes, slims the jaw. In 75 seconds, a real face becomes the impossible billboard face. Final card: "No wonder our perception of beauty is distorted." Posted to YouTube with no media spend. 2.4 million views in the first week. Eventually 16 million views — unprecedented for branded content in 2006. ## Why it worked P12 (social experiment): the film is structured as a revelation — showing the backstage of an industry that depends on invisibility. P03 (behavior inversion): beauty advertising normally shows the beautiful result; this shows the constructed process. The brand's courage — a beauty brand exposing the beauty industry's deception — was its own news story. Won two Cannes Grand Prix. ## Steal Find the process that your industry keeps hidden because its revelation would be uncomfortable. Show it. The transparency itself is the brand idea. The discomfort of the audience is not a risk to manage — it is the evidence that the insight is real. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p12]] - Sibling: [[always-like-a-girl-2014.md|Like a Girl]] - Sibling: [[pg-the-talk-2017.md|The Talk]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
