# Buster the Boxer (John Lewis · 2016)

## Insight
The excitement of a new Christmas present is most purely expressed by the least inhibited recipient — an animal seeing a trampoline for the first time.

## Mechanic
A film where a father secretly builds a trampoline in the garden on Christmas Eve. Various garden animals — foxes, badgers, squirrels — discover and play on it during the night. On Christmas morning, his daughter runs to the trampoline — and is beaten to it by the family dog, Buster.

## Why it worked
The comedy comes from the dog's uncontained glee — the honest version of what Christmas morning excitement looks like. The reveal subverts expectations (animals are the stars; the dog steals the ending). Accessible, shareable joy without sentimentality.

## Steal
Cast the most emotionally uninhibited version of your insight as the protagonist. Animals and children express desire and joy without self-consciousness — their reactions are more credible than performed adult emotions.
