The audience is sophisticated enough to recognise the category codes and feel imprisoned by them. ## Mechanic Spike Jonze directs Margaret Qualley escaping a boring gala through a five-minute unbroken dance sequence of escalating physical extremity and absurdist joy. No fragrance shown until the final seconds. No romance. No conventional beauty signalling. Pure kinetic liberation. ## Why it worked The film is genuinely worth watching independent of the brand. The invisible brand strategy (P07) earns trust; the extraordinary craft (P08) earns attention; the long form (P16) earns the emotion. The brand appears only when the release is earned. The anti-convention of the whole film signals what the brand is by showing what it is not. ## Steal When your category is locked into a visual convention, commission a director known outside advertising. Give them the brief, not the execution. The result will look like their work — and nothing like the category. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p16]] - Sibling: [[apple-1984-1984.md|1984]] - Sibling: [[apple-think-different-1997.md|Think Different]] - Emotion match: [[always-like-a-girl-2014.md|Like a Girl]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
