Cancer survivors and supporters worldwide had messages of hope they wanted to share — but no way to place them on the road of the Tour de France, the world's most iconic cycling course. ## Mechanic Deeplocal built a physical robot attached to a vehicle in the Tour de France peloton that could print chalk messages on the road in real time. People submitted messages via SMS, web, and Twitter. The robot printed them in the path of the cycling race. Messages appeared on the race road, were filmed by helicopter cameras, and were broadcast to millions of viewers worldwide. Each contributor received GPS coordinates of their printed message. ## Why it worked P18 (tech as canvas): the technology was the idea — a robot that could transfer digital messages to the physical world's most-watched cycling stage. P09 (user as co-author): contributors generated the content and became invested in the broadcast because their specific message appeared on a global stage. The GPS coordinate follow-up personalized the scale — each person knew exactly where on the Tour their message was. The combination of physical action (chalk on road), human contribution, and global broadcast created an experience no amount of bought advertising could replicate. ## Steal Find where digital participation can have a physical consequence visible at scale. The physical manifestation of a digital act gives it weight and permanence that purely digital campaigns lack. GPS coordinates as personalized confirmation is a model for closing the loop between mass broadcast and individual participation. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p09]] - Sibling: [[red-bull-stratos-2012.md|Stratos]] - Sibling: [[snickers-hungerithm-2016.md|Hungerithm]] - Emotion match: [[always-like-a-girl-2014.md|Like a Girl]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
