# Paint (Sony Bravia · 2006)

## Insight
Following Bouncy Balls, Sony needed to sustain the "colour is a physical experience" territory without repeating the mechanic. The brief was identical but the execution had to escalate — more dramatic, more visceral, more impossible to dismiss.

## Mechanic
A decommissioned tower block in Glasgow was used as a canvas. Seventy thousand litres of paint were discharged via pneumatic cannons, squibs, and mortars — exploding across the facades of the building in slow motion. Real pyrotechnics, real paint, filmed over ten days and compressed into a 90-second spot. Set to Rossini's "The Thieving Magpie." No CGI.

## Why it worked
The Balls campaign established the formula: physical reality + extraordinary scale + colour = Bravia. Paint escalated each variable. The use of an abandoned building added the implicit message of transformation — grey concrete converted to colour spectacle, which is exactly what a Bravia TV does to your living room. The operatic score (Rossini) gave the destruction a formal beauty that prevented it from reading as chaotic or destructive. P08 craft: the production logistics were legible — audiences understood this was real, expensive, and one-shot. That understanding amplified the brand's quality signal.

## Steal
When a campaign has established a physical mechanic, the second execution must escalate the physical stakes rather than repeat the format. Escalation signals that the brand has more to say; repetition signals that the first idea was the only idea.
