# Council Debate Example

## Scenario

A new B2B workflow tool has a limited launch budget. The founder wants to target every operations team because the product can technically serve them.

## Conflict

**Issue:** initial audience breadth.

**Audience Strategist:** start with one buying situation where pain, language, proof, and reachability are strongest. A focused entry makes research and messaging more precise.

**Brand Growth Strategist:** avoid turning the narrow entry audience into a permanent category boundary if the product can serve broader demand. The brand should not define itself so tightly that future buyers cannot recognize relevance.

## Deciding factors

- limited budget
- sales-assisted learning
- weak category recognition
- no evidence that every operations segment responds to the same trigger
- product can serve broader use cases later

## Decision

Start acquisition and sales learning with the best-evidenced buying situation, while positioning the product around the broader problem rather than naming a permanently narrow segment.

**Confidence:** 0.76

**Would reverse if:** current research shows several large segments share the same trigger, proof, economics, and reachable channels with little added complexity.
