# The Soy Sauce Posters (Sagawa Shoyu · 2019)

## Insight
Soy sauce stains are among the most stubborn stains known to Japanese cooking culture. The stain itself — the mark that soy sauce leaves — is the most honest proof of the product's character.

## Mechanic
Sagawa Shoyu created posters using actual soy sauce as ink — the brand's product IS the design medium. The stains, rings, and drips formed the visual identity. The poster communicates quality through the physical evidence of the product's own character.

## Why it worked
The medium is the message at its most literal: soy sauce advertising made from soy sauce. The material choice is self-referential without irony. The aged, natural appearance of the stain-designed poster communicates craft and tradition more effectively than any claim.

## Steal
When your product leaves a physical mark or trace, use that mark as your design element. The product's own evidence of use is the most honest creative material available.
