State Farm, which had appeared in ESPN broadcasts throughout the Jordan era, had an authentic archival presence in that cultural memory. ## Mechanic A deepfake-enhanced recreation of an ESPN segment from 1998 in which "commentators of the time" discussed the future — which was the audience's present. State Farm was already there then and is still there now: the through-line is brand permanence. The segment was designed to blend seamlessly with the documentary's archival footage. ## Why it worked Insurance is a category where stability is the core value proposition but the most boring thing to say. By embedding the brand inside a moment of authenticated nostalgia — using the documentary's own grammar — State Farm proved permanence without asserting it. The deepfake technique was invisible enough to create confusion and visible enough to create conversation. ## Steal Find a moment in the cultural or category archive where your brand was actually present. Re-stage it so that nostalgia becomes a structural argument for reliability rather than a sentimental ad. The archive is proof; staged sincerity is not. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p16]] - Sibling: [[apple-1984-1984.md|1984]] - Sibling: [[apple-think-different-1997.md|Think Different]] - Emotion match: [[always-like-a-girl-2014.md|Like a Girl]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
