# Like a Girl (Always · 2014)

## Insight
"Like a girl" is used as an insult — implying weakness, inefficiency, inadequacy — at the exact developmental moment when girls are becoming aware of their own limitations. The phrase creates the limitation it describes. Older girls have already absorbed it; young girls haven't.

## Mechanic
A social experiment asking subjects of different ages to demonstrate running, throwing, and fighting "like a girl." Older subjects (teens, adults) perform weakly — they've internalised the insult. Young girls perform at full capacity. The gap between the two groups was the campaign. Ran as a film during the Super Bowl and online simultaneously.

## Why it worked
The social experiment format produced undeniable, unrehearsed evidence of the insight rather than a stated argument. The contrast between the two groups didn't need commentary — it arrived as direct observation. Always had genuine standing (a feminine care brand for girls entering puberty) and the insight connected product directly to purpose.

## Steal
Social experiment campaigns are only credible if the result could have gone the other way. The "Like a Girl" experiment couldn't be scripted because it depended on real people's internalised assumptions. Design experiments that genuinely reveal rather than confirm.
