Insurance advertising is also a hump: a necessary, joyless purchase. GEICO's consistent strategy is to make the joyless joyful — and a camel loudly celebrating Wednesday is purely, inexplicably joyful. ## Mechanic An office scene. A camel wanders through, announcing "HUMP DAYYY!" to indifferent employees. Pure non-sequitur. No direct product connection beyond the GEICO brand. The camel became a cultural meme, shared independently of any media buy. ## Why it worked GEICO's brand permission — pure absurdism in service of making insurance less dreadful — was broad enough to make a wordplay-based camel film feel on-brand. The sharability came from the camel's pure, unexplained enthusiasm. People shared it because it made them happy, not because they engaged with GEICO. ## Steal When a brand's territory is "relief from joylessness," pure joy with no product tether can work — but only if the brand already owns that tonal territory. GEICO had earned the right to make inexplicably funny ads. Without that equity, the camel is just a non-sequitur. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p11]] - Sibling: [[metro-trains-dumb-ways-to-die-2012.md|Dumb Ways to Die]] - Sibling: [[old-spice-man-your-man-could-smell-like-2010.md|The Man Your Man Could Smell Like]] - Emotion match: [[absolut-absolut-campaign-1981.md|Absolut _____]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
