The absurdity was the point: make a boring tech utility famous by being the most talked-about ad in the room. ## Mechanic A Super Bowl spot using absurdist physical comedy and non-sequitur humor to generate conversation around the GoDaddy brand. Shock and irreverence substituted for product explanation. ## Why it worked In a category with near-zero emotional resonance (domain hosting), GoDaddy chose to not compete on product features but on pure cultural noise. The ads were designed to be criticized and debated, which kept the brand name in circulation. Controversy as earned media. ## Steal When the category is boring and competitors all look the same, absurdist disruption can function as brand differentiation — but only if volume of conversation is the actual metric. This strategy trades credibility for fame. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p11]] - Sibling: [[metro-trains-dumb-ways-to-die-2012.md|Dumb Ways to Die]] - Sibling: [[old-spice-man-your-man-could-smell-like-2010.md|The Man Your Man Could Smell Like]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
