# Smoooth (Oatly · 2018)
## Insight
Oatly's CEO Tony Petersson playing piano and singing about oat milk in a Swedish field is arguably the brand's most unguarded creative act. The deliberate awkwardness is the brand's most compelling product demonstration: a company this unafraid of looking ridiculous cannot be hiding anything.
## Mechanic
A film of Oatly CEO singing a soft-rock ballad about "wow no cow" — deliberately amateurish, deeply earnest, and structurally anti-advertising. The song ("Wow, No Cow!") became a minor internet cultural artefact.
## Why it worked
P08 (craft as message) inverted — the complete absence of craft is the craft. P16 gives the performance enough time to become genuinely strange. No other food brand could run this film without looking confused; Oatly's established anti-corporate voice makes the awkwardness read as courage rather than failure.
## Steal
The most credible proof of values is being willing to look foolish in their defence. If a brand's anti-corporate stance is real, it should be able to survive — and benefit from — an execution that no conventionally-run brand would approve.
