# Items API

Items API. Two modules: [`src/items`](src/items/README.md) for item storage and
retrieval, and [`src/billing`](src/billing/README.md) for invoicing.

## Before you change anything

Schema changes need a full container rebuild, not a restart. A restart leaves the
old image serving the old schema and the failure looks like a bad migration.

`src/billing` must not import from `src/items`
([rule 02](rules/02-billing-boundary.md)), and item ids must not become integers
([rule 01](rules/01-opaque-ids.md)). Both are enforced by tests, not by review.

Items measures **bytes**; billing bills in **gigabytes**; nothing in this repo
converts between them. See the module documents before wiring them together.
