Back Market could flip these tactics to make the case for refurbished. ## Mechanic Back Market appropriated the dark patterns of tech product launches — countdown timers, "limited stock" alerts, "exclusive" access — to promote refurbished devices. The campaign hacked the marketing language of the industry it was disrupting. Consumers participated by engaging with the inverted mechanics. ## Why it worked User as co-author (P09): the audience engages with the familiar launch mechanics before the twist is revealed. Enemy or conflict (P02): the campaign positions the entire new-device marketing complex as the adversary. The meta-quality — using the villain's own weapons against them — makes the campaign both funny and righteous. ## Steal When your category has established manipulative conventions, adopt them ironically to expose them. The audience recognises the mechanics from their own experience, making the critique visceral rather than abstract. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p09]] - Sibling: [[red-bull-stratos-2012.md|Stratos]] - Sibling: [[snickers-hungerithm-2016.md|Hungerithm]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
