# Three Little Pigs (The Guardian · 2012)

## Insight
In the age of social media, a single news event is no longer a fact — it is a conversation where every participant has a different version. The Guardian's "open journalism" editorial stance needed a demonstration, not a description. The challenge: how do you make an editorial philosophy feel urgent and necessary rather than abstract?

## Mechanic
A two-minute film retells the Three Little Pigs fairy tale as a breaking news story, showing how the narrative evolves as social media, police, forensics, financial journalism, and protest movements all generate competing versions. Each platform layer adds a contradictory truth. The film ends with the moral implicit: The Guardian's open journalism is the only way to navigate this complexity. No voiceover. The story does the arguing.

## Why it worked
The fairy tale — a story everyone knows — provided instant legibility. The social media overlay was 2012's lived reality. The long-form format (P16) was essential: the complexity of the narrative could not be compressed without losing the argument. The truth-telling pattern (P13) was The Guardian's actual editorial product, not a campaign conceit. The film demonstrated the brand's mission through narrative rather than asserting it through a tagline. Cannes recognized it as a genuinely new form of brand film.

## Steal
When your brand's core value is a process (open journalism, scientific rigor, transparency), dramatize the process as a story — don't name it. Let the audience experience what your brand does, not what it says it does.
