The question: what if they competed not in a game, but in a shooting challenge where the prize was a McDonald's meal? The premise inverts celebrity gravity — these men, worth tens of millions, care intensely about getting a Big Mac. ## Mechanic A Super Bowl TV spot: Larry Bird and Michael Jordan play a game of H-O-R-S-E for a McDonald's meal, with increasingly impossible shots — "off the scoreboard, off the ceiling, nothing but net." The shots escalate to complete absurdity while both players maintain absolute earnestness. The film ends before revealing the winner. A sequel (on TV) revealed the result. The commercial became one of the most remembered ads of the year. ## Why it worked P11 (absurd as carrier): two immortals of basketball competing with deadly seriousness over fast food is pure comic gold — the stakes mismatch is the premise. The escalating impossibility of the shots mirrors the escalating absurdity of the situation. The casting was perfect: Bird and Jordan's genuine rivalry gave the comedy a foundation of real tension that made the joke richer than pure farce. ## Steal Invert the stakes: take your product (ordinary, everyday) and place it in the hands of people for whom nothing is ordinary. The gap between the celebrity's world and the product's humble category generates the comedy without requiring anything more than honest execution. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p11]] - Sibling: [[metro-trains-dumb-ways-to-die-2012.md|Dumb Ways to Die]] - Sibling: [[old-spice-man-your-man-could-smell-like-2010.md|The Man Your Man Could Smell Like]] - Emotion match: [[absolut-absolut-campaign-1981.md|Absolut _____]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
