# Last Orders (Stella Artois · 2000)

## Insight

The moment before "last orders" in a British pub concentrates everything worth loving about pub culture into a single beat of time. Stella Artois understood that what they were really selling was not beer but that irreplaceable social ritual.

## Mechanic

A cinematic TV film depicting the drama, comedy, and bittersweet emotion of pub closing time in the UK — the negotiations, the final gestures, the last-moment reconciliations. Part of the long-running "Reassuringly Expensive" creative territory.

## Why it worked

P16 (long-form drama) used the British pub as a stage for miniature human theater. P11 (absurd as carrier) introduced comic exaggeration within fundamentally recognizable social rituals. The humor made the nostalgia palatable; the nostalgia made the humor meaningful. Stella's positioning as a premium lager was reinforced by the quality of the storytelling itself.

## Steal

Find the ritual moment around your product where human nature is most compressed and legible. That moment — not the product — is the story. The product earns its place by being present at the ritual.
