# Champagne (Xbox · 2001)

## Insight
Life is short — and you spend so much of it not playing games. The insight: if time is finite, what are you doing with it? The Xbox is not a toy for children; it is a choice about how you want to spend the hours of your life.

## Mechanic
A 60-second film showing a man being born and shot out of a hospital window as a high-speed projectile. He travels through the air across an entire lifespan — growing from infant to child to teenager to adult to old age — before crashing into the ground of a graveyard. A gravedigger closes the coffin. Tagline: "Life is short. Play more." The tone is deadpan and precise — not disturbing, but matter-of-fact about mortality.

## Why it worked
P11 (absurd as carrier): the visual metaphor — a life lived at projectile speed — compresses the philosophical argument about mortality into a single absurdist image. The humor comes from commitment to the premise: the man's aging while airborne is rendered with total seriousness. One of the most remembered console launch spots. Won Cannes Gold. Banned from some markets. Created genuine cultural conversation about what advertising was allowed to say.

## Steal
Mortality is the most compelling argument for any product that competes for time and attention. The Xbox's real competitors are not PlayStation — they are sleep, work, and obligation. Naming the true competitor (finite life) makes the category argument before the product argument.
