# Behavioral calibration: a manager's milestone birthday This is a fictional reasoning example, not a reusable template or a real recipient profile. ## Supplied context - Recipient: Manager A, celebrating a milestone birthday - Relationship: a long-time manager - Requested output: short English WhatsApp birthday wish - Requested tone: sarcastic - Behavioral answers: demanding and friendly; friendly equation; milestone jokes are better face to face; they do not normally tease each other; desired sarcasm is 2/5 - Current personal hook: the recipient is away on a birthday trip ## Boundary inference The long, friendly relationship supports warmth, but the manager relationship, low established banter, low requested intensity, and the user's own caution about written milestone jokes all lower the humor ceiling. "Sarcastic" should therefore become warm with, at most, light situational playfulness. The trip is a fresher and safer personal hook than age, management style, or deadlines. Avoid a direct age roast, a joke about harsh deadlines, or humor that would read as more familiar in writing than the relationship actually is. ## Suitable result > Happy Birthday! 🎉 > > Hope you're having a fantastic trip and an even better birthday. Wishing you a great year ahead—enjoy the milestone! 🥂 The message is personal because it uses the trip, not because it recites every known detail. It also shows that the best result may omit humor entirely when the user's later evidence makes that more natural. ## General lesson Requested tone is provisional. Let relationship evidence determine intensity, then find the safest specific hook that still makes the message feel personal. Do not assume all managers, milestone birthdays, or users need the same calibration or wording.
