# Bold Editorial

Use this direction for decisive arguments, culture, opinion, launches and strong
chapter statements. Its character comes from typographic hierarchy and editorial
contrast, rather than constant force or a poster on every scene.

## Still composition

- Give a short headline architectural scale; break lines around meaning, with
tight but readable spacing and a strong sans display face.
- Use an asymmetric field split, an edge-cropped image or one off-centre type
block. Let a large empty region balance the dense region.
- Align supporting copy and relevant source labels to a shared edge. Keep them
readable at the intended viewing size; small copy is not decorative texture.
- Begin with a light or dark neutral and one decisive accent. Colour can separate
positions in an argument or identify the important result.
- Use slabs, rules, image crops and simple diagram marks when they organize
information. Registration marks and counters need an actual purpose.

## Motion vocabulary

- **Reframe the argument:** a field expands as the main idea gains importance;
existing text shifts to an edge and becomes context for the next statement.
- **Reveal a contrast:** a hard-edged wipe exposes the opposing side while a
common baseline keeps the comparison understandable.
- **Carry an anchor:** retain a key word, numeral or image crop across a cut,
changing its surroundings to develop the thought.
- **Land a statement:** masked type reveals or a decisive scale change settle
cleanly, followed by enough stillness to read and register the claim.
- **Punctuate a turn:** use a hard cut or full-field colour change when the
argument changes direction, rather than adding effects to every sentence.

## Adjustable starting points

- Try 180–350 ms for a type or field reveal, with a firm ease-out and no bounce.
A broader compositional change may need 400–650 ms to remain understandable.
- A travel distance around 4–10% of the composition width can make a directional
handoff clear; a mask may communicate the same idea with no travel at all.
- Give related supporting entries a short offset, roughly 40–90 ms, when their
order matters. Lengthen the resulting hold for copy that needs explanation.

## Example development

A large claim occupies the left field; its supporting image fills a narrow right
strip. The strip expands to expose a relevant detail, moving the claim into a
compact label. A line from that detail becomes the divider of the next comparison.
The composition changes because the evidence has become the subject.

## Standalone typography

Compose one statement in large type with deliberate line breaks and an asymmetric
margin. Reveal the lines as a connected gesture; retain a key word as the next phrase
reorganizes around it. The change in scale and hierarchy carries the argument without
an image, backing slab or card. Let the resulting statement hold.

## Avoid

Repeated poster resets, arbitrary image/type collisions, unreadable micro-copy,
pseudo-technical marks, unnecessary distortion and equal emphasis on every word.
Preserve readable source material and let quieter passages support the major turns.
