Canal+ subscribers, as cinema lovers, would appreciate a brand that uses the format's authority as a joke rather than a crutch. ## Mechanic A spot parodying the style of "March of the Penguins" (the 2005 documentary hit). Penguins march in the familiar fashion, narrated with documentary gravitas — until they arrive at a cinema and queue for tickets. The joke is earned because the format is respected, not mocked. Canal+'s tagline: "Committed to Cinema." ## Why it worked P11 (absurd as carrier): the cultural context of the original film makes the parody work — audiences who saw "March of the Penguins" experience the delight of recognition. P16 (long-form drama): the documentary format has its own emotional logic, which the spot borrows and then playfully undermines. BETC's Canal+ work established the template that "The Bear" would perfect five years later. ## Steal Parody works only when you respect the original. The penguins going to the cinema is funny because the preceding shots are genuinely good nature-documentary filmmaking. A cheap parody would have been a cheaper joke. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p11]] - Sibling: [[metro-trains-dumb-ways-to-die-2012.md|Dumb Ways to Die]] - Sibling: [[old-spice-man-your-man-could-smell-like-2010.md|The Man Your Man Could Smell Like]] - Emotion match: [[absolut-absolut-campaign-1981.md|Absolut _____]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
