Chrysler — itself rescued by government bailout — was positioned as a symbol of failure. No one expected a Chrysler car to be excellent. And "imported" was what Americans called cars that were actually good. ## Mechanic A two-minute Super Bowl spot narrated by Eminem and set entirely in Detroit — its architecture, its people, its music — arguing that the city (and the car) have earned something that cannot be explained to people who haven't been through what they've been through. The tagline: "Imported from Detroit." The car appears for the final ten seconds. ## Why it worked The ad inverted the grammar of automotive advertising entirely. No driving sequences. No handling claims. No aspirational landscape. Instead: defiant civic pride wrapped in hip-hop cultural credibility (Eminem, born in Detroit, not a celebrity endorser). The P06 logic (limitation as power) inverts the bailout stigma into proof of survival. The brand became the city's voice at a moment when the city had none. ## Steal When your brand has a scar, make the scar the story. Not because audiences are forgiving, but because authenticity about struggle is the only foundation for credibility with an audience that has also struggled. The scar must be real — manufactured vulnerability reads immediately. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p16]] - Sibling: [[apple-1984-1984.md|1984]] - Sibling: [[apple-think-different-1997.md|Think Different]] - Emotion match: [[apple-1984-1984.md|1984]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
