# Wall (GE · 2016)

## Insight
Talking to entities that cannot respond — machines, walls, institutions — is a universal frustration. GE's technology makes machines capable of responding, monitoring, and communicating. The joke about "talking to a wall" becomes an ironic point of departure.

## Mechanic
A film built around the absurdist premise of literally talking to a wall — extended to a point where the wall begins to respond, reflect, or reveal some unexpected capability. Part of GE's series with BBDO exploring industrial connectivity through absurdist scenarios.

## Why it worked
Absurdism (P11) derived from a cultural idiom ("like talking to a wall") taken literally and then inverted — the wall that talks back is GE's connectivity technology made concrete. Long-form format (P16) allows the absurd premise to breathe and accumulate surreal logic before arriving at the punchline.

## Steal
Advertising clichés and cultural idioms can be inverted literally to produce fresh absurdist premises. "Like talking to a wall" → make the wall talk. The audience's familiarity with the source creates immediate comprehension of the inversion.
