# Pub Succession (Heineken · 2023)

## Insight

A beloved historic Irish pub (McLoughlin's) risks closure because there's no heir to carry the name. The cultural loss is real — and findable through modern media.

## Mechanic

Heineken launched a global search for anyone named McLoughlin willing to take over the pub, hijacking the cultural moment of pub-closure anxiety and turning it into a participatory casting call with global media pickup.

## Why it worked

Cultural hijack with genuine stakes: the problem was real, the solution was novel, and the name-search mechanic generated earned media in every Irish diaspora market. User participation (nomination) did the distribution work.

## Steal

Find a real cultural tension in your brand's natural environment (a disappearing place, a dying tradition). Build a stunt that solves it rather than just commenting on it.
