# Broadway Poem (MetLife · 2002)

## Insight
After 9/11, institutional advertising felt obscene. The only credible tone for a brand with New York roots was silence, or something close to it — testimony rather than message.

## Mechanic
A film using the streets of Broadway as its canvas, structured as a visual poem — typography and images from the city itself carrying the emotional weight without conventional advertising structure or explicit brand message.

## Why it worked
In a moment of collective grief, the brands that spoke least spoke loudest. The typographic, poetic register signalled that this was not an ad trying to capitalize — it was a brand bearing witness.

## Steal
In moments of genuine cultural crisis, the question is not "what do we say?" but "what register is appropriate?" Sometimes the register is poetry, not persuasion.
