# The Look (P&G · 2019)

## Insight
"The Talk" (2017) showed Black parents preparing their children for police encounters. "The Look" showed the other side: the unconscious looks of surveillance, suspicion, and dismissal that Black men encounter in everyday settings — grocery stores, boardrooms, elevators. The sequel insight: the same prejudice that requires The Talk is expressed daily not in words but in glances.

## Mechanic
A two-minute film following a Black man through a series of everyday locations — each one containing a specific "look" from someone who perceives him as a threat, criminal, or lesser. The film is entirely visual: no dialogue, no explanation, no statement. The looks are the evidence. The ending breaks into hope.

## Why it worked
P13 (truth-telling) at its most disciplined: no narration, no brand voice, no explanation — just documentary observation of looks that millions of Black men recognise but that the broader culture rarely sees named. P16 gave it the duration to accumulate weight before breaking toward hope. Companion piece to "The Talk" — together they form P&G's most significant cultural contribution: a brand making racial prejudice visible and legible to audiences who might otherwise not have encountered it.

## Steal
When the truth you need to tell is visible rather than verbal, resist the urge to explain it. Remove narration, remove copy, remove the brand's voice and let the evidence speak. The viewer's recognition of something they have seen but never named is more powerful than any claim.
