# Architecture

Three services: `api`, `worker` and `notifier`.

The `notifier` service consumes the `item.created` topic and delivers webhooks.
It scales independently of the api and holds its own delivery-retry state.

Billing is said to read item counts through a reporting view. A guide for that
view is referenced by older copies of this document but does not exist in this
repository, so the link has been removed rather than left to rot. The concrete
consequence for anyone working in the code today is the unit boundary described
in the module documents below: items measures **bytes**, billing bills in
**gigabytes**, and nothing in this tree converts between them.
