# Supporting documentation: Evidence record

Create an evidence record only when consequential claims, source roles, confidence or uncertainty need to survive beyond the visual artefact. It supports the pack; it is not a presentation mode, format or hero output.

Choose a content-led medium:

- `evidence.md` is the portable default;
- `evidence.html` is appropriate when links, filtering, disclosure or easier scanning materially help;
- a printable document is appropriate when the record must be reviewed, circulated or signed off in a document workflow.

Do not force the record into a 16:9 canvas. Let it scroll or extend to the content's natural length, with a readable line length and responsive tables. A 16:9 PNG may be supplied as a labelled overview or extract, never as the complete record when rows have been omitted or clipped.

Record each material claim as a compact row:

| Claim or inference | Status | Evidence role | Source | Confidence or limitation | Used in |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
|  | known / proposed / assumed / to learn | supports / complicates / contradicts / context | direct link or supplied reference | plain-language qualification | artefact and location |

Rules:

- keep source links direct and descriptive;
- distinguish what a source establishes from what the concept infers;
- put a short uncertainty label in the visual artefact when it materially affects interpretation;
- keep detailed provenance in `evidence.md` rather than turning the hero visual into a dossier;
- if HTML or a document is the primary record, keep the same fields and direct-source discipline rather than maintaining a divergent second version;
- do not create an evidence record for ordinary illustrative copy or merely to make a pack look rigorous.
