# Source policy This policy makes the wiki inspectable rather than a collection of convenient summaries. It applies whenever a note is added, amended, shown, or exported. ## Source classes | Class | May be linked or stored? | Required treatment | |---|---|---| | Public authority or publication | Yes | Link the canonical URL, title, date, and relevant pinpoint. Store a copy only where that is permitted and useful. | | Authorised non-matter local material | Yes | Link its local path, title, and pinpoint only with the user's permission. Record a content hash when available. | | Matter document or session material | Never as a durable source | Do not copy it, retain its path/title, or expose it in an index, history, visual, or receipt. Distil only reusable, de-identified method; prefer an independent source. | | Unsourced working insight | Only as a clearly labelled draft | Mark it **Unverified** or **Gap**. It is not authority and cannot be presented as one. | ## Grounding a note Every load-bearing legal proposition needs a nearby footnote or other precise link to a source record. A source record should include, where known: - stable identifier and title; - public URL or authorised non-matter local path; - publisher/author and publication or last-checked date; - page, paragraph, section, or other pinpoint; - a short supporting extract when it improves verification; - content hash for a local source where practicable. Do not fabricate a source, pinpoint, quoted text, or local path. A summary is analysis, not a substitute for the source. Keep a disputed or outdated source visible with its status; do not silently rewrite history around it. ## Matter-derived learning Matter work can reveal a reusable checklist, trap, or research question. The wiki may retain that generalised insight only when it is true without the matter and cannot identify it. Do not persist a statement of defence, a draft, correspondence, a transcript, or a reference that lets someone locate one. When no independent authority is available, the honest outcome is a clearly labelled **Unverified** draft or **Gap**, or no note at all. “No reusable knowledge” is a complete outcome.
