# Video Game (Coca-Cola · 2013)

## Insight
Video games are often framed as antisocial, isolating activities. But gaming is genuinely social for millions of people — it's how friendships are maintained, how people connect across distance. The social dimension of gaming is invisible in advertising.

## Mechanic
A film set in a video game world that shows characters from the game having a genuinely human, friendship-centered experience — reframing the gaming context as a space of real connection rather than escape. Coca-Cola appears as the connective element.

## Why it worked
By taking the video game world seriously as a social space rather than treating it as a gimmick or an addiction metaphor, the spot speaks to gamers on their own terms. Coca-Cola's connection platform extends naturally into digital-social spaces without condescending to the audience.

## Steal
When entering a new cultural context (gaming, esports, streaming), don't interpret the culture from the outside. Understand the genuine social function it serves for its participants and address that function directly.
