KFC's secret recipe — 11 herbs and spices — is its most famous mystery. Making that mystery visible through an impossibly tiny gesture was more powerful than any announcement. ## Mechanic KFC's Twitter account followed exactly 11 people: the five Spice Girls and six men named Herb. A fan spotted this, tweeted about it, and the story went global. KFC did not announce or explain the stunt — they simply waited for discovery. The account had been configured this way for months before anyone noticed. ## Why it worked P09 (user as co-author): the audience discovered the joke and became the news. P11 (absurd as carrier): the logic is internally perfect — 11 herbs, 11 follows, Herb + Spice Girls — and can be explained in one sentence, but only after you stare at it. Zero paid media. The entire campaign cost the creative idea and the patience to wait. The D&AD Yellow Pencil validated that the smallest possible act, executed with precision, beats the biggest possible media buy. ## Steal Design for discovery, not for announcement. Hide a perfectly formed joke in plain sight and let the audience be the journalist. The moment of discovery — "wait, did they really do this?" — generates more earned media than any press release. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p09]] - Sibling: [[red-bull-stratos-2012.md|Stratos]] - Sibling: [[snickers-hungerithm-2016.md|Hungerithm]] - Emotion match: [[absolut-absolut-campaign-1981.md|Absolut _____]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
