# Parklife (Nike · 2002)

## Insight

British football culture exists in parks, not stadiums. The real game — the one that forges lifelong passion — is played on muddy patches of public land with jumpers for goalposts, with friends who know you by your worst moments as well as your best. Nike understood that for the UK market, the authentic football insight was not glory but community.

## Mechanic

A TV film capturing the chaotic, unglamorous, intensely communal experience of a park football game in Britain — the arguments, the laughter, the near-misses, the camaraderie. Directed with observational intimacy. Part of Nike's sustained effort to speak to British football culture in its own language rather than through the lens of global superstar marketing.

## Why it worked

P16 (long-form drama) used the film to build a world in which the viewer was immediately immersed — not impressed, but included. The absence of star athletes was deliberate: this film was about the audience, not aspirational figures. The tone of fond, affectionate recognition created more brand warmth than any stadium spectacle.

## Steal

In a category dominated by aspirational casting, consider the opposite: cast the audience itself. A film that makes viewers feel seen rather than impressed creates a deeper brand connection than one that makes them feel envious.
