The insight: the car is not transportation to a destination; sometimes the journey is the destination, and the people you're with are the point. ## Mechanic A 60-second film showing a group of twentysomethings in a Golf driving through a dark landscape to Nick Drake's "Pink Moon." They arrive at a party, see the lights and people inside, look at each other — and drive on. No dialogue. No voiceover. No product claims. Just music, the car, and the choice to keep going. ## Why it worked P16 long-form at its most restrained: 60 seconds was long enough to establish the emotional world, and the silence (no dialogue) made the characters' unspoken communication the story. The VW Golf's positioning as the choice of people who think for themselves — who don't do what they're supposed to do — was communicated entirely through behavior. Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" became iconic partly through this ad. The film earned Cannes Gold and remains one of the most cited examples of automotive advertising that isn't about the car. ## Steal When the insight is about freedom from obligation, show characters choosing that freedom in a specific, believable moment rather than asserting it as a claim. The choice is more powerful than any statement. ## Related - Pattern: [[../MOC-pattern.md#p16]] - Sibling: [[apple-1984-1984.md|1984]] - Sibling: [[apple-think-different-1997.md|Think Different]] - Emotion match: [[metro-trains-dumb-ways-to-die-2012.md|Dumb Ways to Die]] --- *Author: Serge Shima ([t.me/aimastersme](https://t.me/aimastersme) · [sergeshima.com](https://sergeshima.com) · [aimasters.me](https://aimasters.me)) · License: CC BY 4.0 — attribution required · Source: [smixs/creative-director-skill](https://github.com/smixs/creative-director-skill)*
