# Trim a video

1. Use the `video_trim` tool: it keeps the span from `trim_start_ms` (default 0) to `trim_end_ms`, with its audio.
2. Get the `video` (`ask_for_media` with `kind: "video"`, or an earlier output url) and the span in milliseconds; `trim_end_ms` must be after the start and at most the video's length.
3. Call `video_trim` with a fresh `request_id` and no `max_credits`, then follow the quote's `next` (it applies the user's approval mode). On a yes, call it again with the same input and `request_id` and the agreed `max_credits`.
4. When the trim feeds another tool (`camera_director`, `extend_video`, …), wait for it with `get_job` and pass its output url on.
